Drive via Reutte in Tyrol to Hohenschwangau near Füssen. There you will find Neuschwanstein Castle, the world's most famous building of the fairytale king Ludwig II, as well as his father's castle, Hohenschwangau Castle.
Neuschwanstein Castle is situated on a high rock and can be reached either on foot (30 minutes), by horse-drawn carriage (only half way) or by shuttle bus to the Marienbrücke bridge above the castle. From here you have a marvellous view of the castle and the Alpine foothills (steep path down to the castle). Then visit the castle.
Due to the somewhat difficult access to the castle and the many steps inside the castle, we only recommend this tour for groups who are able to walk.
From Hohenschwangau drive to the Wieskirche. The pilgrimage church ‘Zum gegeißelten Heiland’ is the jewel of Bavarian rococo and is one of the most beautiful churches in southern Germany. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
Continue to Oberammergau, world-famous for the Passion Play, which takes place every 10 years, but also for its many woodcarvers and Lüftlmalereien. Guided tour of the town.
On the way back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, stop at the Benedictine monastery of Ettal and visit the mighty baroque basilica with its 70 metre high dome.
We will also be happy to put together an individual programme to suit your wishes and make suggestions for a pre-booked lunch.
