The route leads through the impressive landscape of the Wetterstein and Karwendel mountains to Krün on the Isar. At the Krün Isar weir, most of the Isar water is diverted to the Walchensee because of the Walchensee power station.
The route continues via Walgau to Walchensee, one of the largest and most beautiful Alpine lakes in Bavaria. Along the western shore to Urfeld and then along the winding Kesselbergstrasse 200 metres down to Kochelsee.
Visit the Walchensee power station, whose turbines are driven by the water of the Walchensee, which plunges 200 metres down to the Kochelsee through 6 mighty pipes.
Shortly before Kochel is the Franz Marc Museum. If you are interested, you can visit the museum.
Through Kochel, past the monument to the famous Schmid von Kochel, the route leads to Benediktbeuern Monastery. The two towers of the basilica can be seen from afar. Originally a Benedictine abbey, the Salesians of Don Bosco now live and work in the extensive monastery complex. Visit the Borock Basilica and the rococo Anastasia Chapel.
Lunch at the Klosterbräu-Stüberl in the former young cattle stables of the Meierhof, or in the large beer garden if the weather is fine.
In the afternoon, return directly to Garmisch-Partenkirchen or alternatively travel via:
Bad Tölz on the Isar with its beautiful market street and the church on the Calvary, visible from afar OR via Murnau, the cradle of Expressionism.
We will also be happy to put together an individual programme to suit your wishes and make suggestions for a pre-booked lunch.
